Aims
Students will:
develop an understanding of written and spoken language in a variety of contexts
develop the ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken language, using a variety of vocabulary, syntax and structures
develop knowledge of the language and language-learning skills
develop an awareness and understanding of target-language speaking countries and communities
recognise that their linguistic knowledge, understanding and skills help them to take their place in society and facilitate career choice
derive enjoyment from language learning
Key Stage 4 - CCEA GCSE French and Irish
The GCSE French and Irish specification is made up of four units:
Unit 1: Listening (one external written examination);
Unit 2: Speaking (one teacher-conducted speaking examination);
Unit 3: Reading (one external written examination); and
Unit 4: Writing (one external written examination)
A GCSE in French or Irish helps students to:
Develop their knowledge of and enthusiasm for language learning skills by providing opportunities for the practical use of French or Irish;
Develop the confidence to communicate effectively in French or Irish;
Take their place as citizens in a multilingual, global society
