Aims

Students will:

  • develop an understanding of written and spoken language in a variety of contexts

  • develop the ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken language, using a variety of vocabulary, syntax and structures

  • develop knowledge of the language and language-learning skills

  • develop an awareness and understanding of target-language speaking countries and communities

  • recognise that their linguistic knowledge, understanding and skills help them to take their place in society and facilitate career choice

  • derive enjoyment from language learning

Key Stage 4 - CCEA GCSE French and Irish

The GCSE French and Irish specification is made up of four units:

  • Unit 1: Listening (one external written examination);

  • Unit 2: Speaking (one teacher-conducted speaking examination);

  • Unit 3: Reading (one external written examination); and

  • Unit 4: Writing (one external written examination)

A GCSE in French or Irish helps students to:

  • Develop their knowledge of and enthusiasm for language learning skills by providing opportunities for the practical use of French or Irish;

  • Develop the confidence to communicate effectively in French or Irish;

  • Take their place as citizens in a multilingual, global society
